SEARs and Agency Advice Released – What Does This Mean?

The release of the Planning Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) and agency advice is an important milestone in the State Significant Development (SSD) assessment process. The SEARs set out the environmental studies, investigations and assessments that the project proponent must undertake before preparing and submitting an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Agency advice provided by government departments and regulators identifies key issues, risks and information requirements that must be considered as part of the assessment. Together, these documents provide an early indication of the matters that government agencies consider important and help the community understand the potential impacts that will be examined before any decision is made on the project.
